There were several celebrations and recognition at the Windsor-Severance Board of Education regular meeting Nov. 19.
During Karen Trusler's superintendent report, former board member Cathy Norris was recognized with plaques for her service on the board for four years by the district and the Windsor Education Association.
Norris resigned from the board Oct. 15 following a move to Fort Collins and accepted a new job with the National Parks Conservation Association.
Taking Norris' place in the District B position is Windsor Parks and Recreation sports supervisor Bobby Warner, who was sworn in on Monday night. Warner ran unopposed in the Nov. 6 election.
With Warner, board members Rick Klimek, John Vázquez and Sean Ash also were sworn in. Trent Leisy, director in district C, was elected in 2005 and his term will continue until 2009.
The board also had to appoint each member as an officer and committee representatives.
t Klimek was re-elected as board president
t Vázquez was elected as vice president and will serve as a representative for the Parks and Recreation Board and Library Board.
t Leisy was re-elected as the secretary and will be a representative for the Legislative Network and a delegate for the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB).
t Ash was re-elected as the treasurer and will be a representative, along with Warner, for the Workers' Compensation Pool.
t Sherry Hoffman was elected as the assistant secretary.
t Stephanie Watson was elected as the assistant treasurer.
Other Items
t The board was briefed on progress of services to the new addition of Grandview Elementary and the new middle school and elementary schools in Severance.
Dick Huwa, owner's representative, said the soil investigations and architect surveying at Grandview has been complete. Huwa said a progress report will be issued to the board each month.
t The board approved an extension for the proposed Northern Colorado Center for Children (NCCC) Charter School Application.
The applicant requested more time to address the board's questions on budget, facilities and number of students.
The NCCC will come before the board on Dec. 10.
t The board approved the Windsor High School course handbook for the 2008-09 school year. Twenty-one classes have been added to the handbook.
